MOORINGSPORT, LA - Janet Sue Nix, 58 of Mooringsport, LA passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 after a brief illness. Graveside funeral services will be held at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mooringsport, LA on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11 am. Officiating will be Rev. Randy Brown of Lufkin, TX and Robbin Haley of Mooringsport, LA. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Gorsulowsky Funeral Home in Vivian, LA.
Jan was born June 18, 1953 in Shreveport, LA to Billie and Dale Nix Sr. She attended school in Mooringsport, LA and graduated from Northwood High School in 1973. Jan was employed at the Vivian Police Dept., where she worked as a dispatcher for 25 years. Prior to that she worked as a dispatcher for the Oil City Police Dept. and Caddo Fire District 7. She was dedicated to her job and committed to contacting the elderly to ensure their safety and well-being.
Her mother, Billie Jean Nix, preceded her in death. Jan is survived by her father, Dale Nix Sr.; her brother, Dale G. Nix Jr. and wife Betty, all of Mooringsport; her aunt, Margaret Weaver Bateman of Oil City, LA; and many cousins and friends who loved her very much.
Pallbearers will be Kim McGee, Teke Weaver, James Pyle, Max Ryan, Jonathan Mattson and Pat Weaver. The Vivian Police Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Mooringsport Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 595, Mooringsport, LA 71060.
