Mr. Jack L. Whitfield, 89, of Waskom, Texas passed away July 18, 2016 at Grace Home in Shreveport, LA. Jack was born in Goodpine, Louisiana on September 16, 1926.
He was preceded in death by his parents W. A. Whitfield and Lillie C. Whitfield and his wife for 69 years, Betty J. Whitfield. Jack is survived by his two sons Travis Arthur and wife Cherie, Jeff Lee and wife Vicki; daughter Kaylon Paradise and husband Bud; grandchildren include Tonya Connery, Kaylon Dufault, Alicia Whitfield, Sam Paradise, Ian Looper, Nick Looper, Cheri Rush, and Brandi Lynch, along with 26 great-grandchildren; siblings, Minerva Little, Rita Stevens, Don Whitfield and wife Carolyn, and William Whitfield. Jack also has numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and his beloved service dog Cookie.
Jack served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was present at the invasion of Iwo Jima where he was injured. He was a Mason and Shriner. Jack was retired and loved having his children and grandchildren living around him so he could ride his golf cart for daily visits with them.
Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home, Shreveport. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, Shreveport, LA. Pastor Bill Stroud will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Travis Whitfield, George Whitfield, Sam Paradise, Andre Cortez, Corey Harper and Robert Moody.
