She went to meet her Lord and Savior on July, 31, 2015, where she died peacefully in her sleep at Brookdale Plaza in Sugar Land, TX. She became a celebrity at the age of 7 months when she walked and the newspaper did an article on her with a picture of her standing on her father's head. She was an alumnus of North High School in Des Moines, IA where she graduated at the age of 16. After graduation she worked at various jobs. The most memorable job she held was during WWII; she did clerical work for engineers at the Ammunitions plant. She was a lifetime member of Eastern Star; she helped organize group Live Y'ers; played basketball at the YWCA. Dorothy loved to dance, she and her sister would go to the Tromar Ballroom in the city to dance to bands that later became very famous. After the war she began working in insurance claim work which she did occasionally throughout her life. In 1950 she married Roger H. Smith in Des Moines IA. They moved to Houston, TX in 1957, then on to Dallas in 1958, finally to Shreveport, LA in 1960 where that became her home for the next 53 years. She raised 4 children during their 20 year marriage until she became a widow in 1970. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Louis H. Smith; grandson, Don Mooring Jr. and sister, Marie Trissler. Left to cherish her memory are her 3 daughters, Linda Smith of Sugar Land, TX, Cynthia Valtierra (Juan) of MN, MN, and Pamela LaCaze of Shreveport, LA; 6 grandchildren, John Barnes (Sharon), Christopher Deal (Naomi), Christy Davidson (Patrick), Anthony LaCaze (Brandy), Scott Mooring (Susan) and Brian Mooring; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren;1 sister, Polly Campbell; 2 nephews and 1 niece. Our mother will be greatly missed by all of her family but we will cherish the love and memories we have shared all these years.
