SHREVEPORT, LA- Mary Emma Heiser Bland, was born July 13, 1921 and finished her earthly life on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the age of 92. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord … Blessed indeed … that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!" (Rev. 14.13 CEV).

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be her son-in-law, Dr. Austin B. Tucker with a eulogy by Doll Moore and granddaughter, Christie Deyo. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Southside Chapel the hour before the service.

Mrs. Bland was born July 13, 1921 and died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in hospice care at their home. She was a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church and a life-long resident of Shreveport. She was a retired beautician who founded her own beauty shop. Mary Bland and her husband moved into the Oaks of Louisiana Retirement Community in January 2013 and have enjoyed the fellowship of many friends there. They have remained active in Summer Grove Baptist Church though recently fading strength made attendance less regular. Mrs. Bland was an active member in the Pelican Travel Motorhome Club, the Homemakers Club for 47 years and in the leadership of Fair Park High School Alumni's monthly meetings until recently. The Blands have been lifetime citizens of Shreveport.

Her husband of 77 years, E. Edgar Bland, survives her, as do their two daughters and families: Beverly and Austin Tucker and Janis and Jim Nallin. Mrs. Bland also leaves three grandchildren; David Tucker, Christie Tucker Deyo and husband, Jeff and Brian Nallin and wife, Leslie, and six great-grandchildren: Chase, Erin and Allie Deyo and Aaron, Cole, and Shelby Nallin. She is also survived by two sisters: Carrie Mae "Cherry" Conover and Margie Keeling. Preceding her in death were her parents Erick R. and Mary Heiser, her sister Judy Nance and her grandson Richard E. Nallin.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Summer Grove Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.

The family expresses thanks to Dr. Robert Savory and Dr. Albert Krause and to several Willis-Knighton caregivers including Tangela and Margaret with W/K hospice.

Pallbearers: Brian, Aaron and Cole Nallin, David Tucker, Chase and Jeff Deyo. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Nallin and Harold Bland.
