Bessie Lee Farmer went to be with the Lord on December 8, 2016 after a long illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Rose- Neath Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Brother Buddy Hankins. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the funeral home.

Betty was born on July 28, 1922 in New Orleans, La and raised in Oakdale, La. Betty was married on April 26, 1941 to Major Earl L. Farmer of the Shreveport Police Department. Betty and Earl spent most of their adult lives in Shreveport. Major Farmer went to his heavenly reward in 1987. Betty is survived by three daughters: Elizabeth Farmer (Ronald Nowak) of Green Valley, Az, Susan Farmer Reynolds (Loran W. Reynolds Jr.) of Shreveport, La and Sarah Farmer Klein (Richard Klein) of Birmingham, Al. Betty enjoyed 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild. Betty retired as a sales associate at Sears Department Store. Betty was a long-time member at Southside Baptist Church in Shreveport where she sought opportunities to volunteer and contribute to the church community at Southside. She taught Sunday school for many years, ranging in ages from preschool through Senior Ladies. Betty later joined Brookwood Baptist Church, where she loved her ladies group. Betty's hobbies included quilting with her circle of church friends from Southside, and her love for her many pets.

Donations may be made in Betty's honor to the Alzheimer's Association, or the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to recognize The Bradford where she lived for 3 ½ years with a special thank you to so many staff members, especially Monique, Jennie, Belinda, Kasey, and Starla. We also want to thank St. Joseph's Hospice and their staff for their vigilance in these last days. Also, to Dr. Sally Ball for all her love and care for Betty and her family.
