Franklin Peter Gertson / Goertzen, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went home to the Lord on March 15, 2015 at 96 years of age. He was born February 9, 1919, in Gladwin, Michigan to Frank and Martha Goertzen, German immigrants, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Earlyne and sister, Goldie Marie Goertzen. He is survived by his children, Franklin and Effie of Oklahoma City, Richard and Gaile of Garland, TX, and Rodney and Susan of Edmond, OK. He leaves much loved grandchildren, Daniel and Kimberly of San Antonio, TX, Alisha and Mark Moessner of Dallas, TX, Micah and Jannat and great-grandson Jonah of Quincy, MA, Meghan and Chris Henry of Denton, TX and Nathan and Claire of Springfield, MO. He is also survived by cousin, Gaylord and Peggy Goertzen of Hillsboro, KS; one sister, Lavonne Goertzen Thomas of Ft. Meyers, FL; and brother, Jessie of Sunnyside, WA. Frank was a veteran of WWII and Purple Heart recipient, having served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific theater. He was employed as an Electrical Engineer for Texas Eastern Transmission in Shreveport from 1949-1976, then transferring to Houston, TX, retiring in 1985 as Senior Engineer. He and Earlyne moved to Oklahoma City in 1999. As a Registered Professional Engineer, he served and held offices in the American Gas Association, the Instrument Society of America, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Petroleum and Chemical Industry Conference, and the National Fire Protection Association. He was a deacon and active member of Summer Grove Baptist Church for many years while in Shreveport. Graveside services will be held 10:00am, Thursday, March 26 at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport.
