Effie Mae Masters Maxey, 96, went to be with the Lord on July 28, 2018. She was being taken care of in a group home in Nevada. She spent her life as a caregiver to all and a serviced filled Christian life. After the loss of her first husband WWII Vet. Erville Abbott, she went back to the family home and took care of her daughter who preceded her in death, Judith Abbott McRae, and she was a blessing to her parents, Joel and Nora Masters, as a loving daughter and eldest sister to a large family that she survived except for the twin brothers, Harold and Rodney Masters, who grew up as brother and sisters to Effie Child.

She worked as waitress many years in the Shreveport area and was devoted to helping her brother Joel C. Masters in the care of Nora Ann Masters, a beloved Down Syndrome daughter Effie doted on. After the death of her brother, Joel, she moved right into his home to take care of Nora Ann.

She spent many years taking care of her second husband, Joe Maxey who passed shorty before her daughter needed her care. Effie spent many years coming back and forth to Las Vegas to help her daughter who fought brain tumor for many years.

A blessing to her granddaughter, Karla Deneen, who had two small children at home, Tiffany and Kurtis Deneen. She lost her great-grandchild Tiffany Deneen in 2010.

In loving memory to my grandmother who was so devoted to the care of others. I pray she is surrounded by her large family in heaven. She will be laid to rest at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 10 a.m. with a graveside service.
