GREENWOOD, LA- Graveside services for Louis Edward Pittman, 94, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 4, 2014 at Forest Park West Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Chad Hardbarger and Rev. Harry Forrester. Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday prior to the service at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel, 2500 Southside Drive. Louis was born in Vivian, LA on March 30, 1920 to Emmett and Rosa Maquoirk Pittman and passed away on July 30, 2014 at the NW Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier. He married Myrtle Lee Lovett on December 20, 1941 in Springhill, LA and they were married sixty-eight years before her passing in 2009. Of this union, six daughters were born; Donna Brandt of Marshall, TX, Marjorie Chaddick and husband Claude of Greenwood, LA, Janet Collins of Houston, TX, Denise Pardue and husband Steve of Albany, GA, Charlotte Pittman of Houston, TX and Rosemary Stajduhar and husband, Jeff of Haughton, LA; five grandchildren, Megan and Stacy Chaddick, Amanda Collins, Rick Stajduhar, Kimberly Stajduhar Wytaske and three great-grandchildren, Aarika, Bryce and Corey Novelli, all of whom survive Mr. Pittman to cherish his memory. He is also survived by his sister, Lois Kirkham. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters, Maudie Odom, Pauline Strickland, Lucille Young; brothers, Everett Pittman, Hollis Pittman, Kenneth Pittman, Preston Pittman and sons-in-law, Thomas C. Brandt and Don Collins. Louis served in the U.S. Army during WWII which took him to England, France, Germany and Holland. While stationed at San Diego, CA, he was a member of the 307th Coast Artillery Barrage Balloon Battalion. After retiring from Kalmbach-Burkett Feed Company, he successfully managed Wholesale Grassland, Inc. for 25 years and was affectionately known throughout the Ark-La-Tex as the "Grass Man". He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the John Elkins Sunday School Class. The family wishes to thank Dr. Roy Fleniken and the staff at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home and special caregiver, Mrs. Emma Richardson, for the excellent care of our Dad.
