SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Idella Alvina Eckhoff Morgan, 96, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 8895 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Stanley Larson. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:00 Noon, prior to the service at the church. Idella was born June 19, 1919 on the Eckhoff family farm to Frederick and Josephine Eckhoff, residents of rural Benton County, MO. Idella's grandparents were German immigrants of the 1850's who settled near relatives south of Sedalia, MO. During her first year her parents took Baby Idella with them to Manitou Springs, CO anticipating that the climate would relieve her father's health situation. They returned home just before Christmas; he succumbed January 1920. Idella attended Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln, MO, was confirmed at Zion, graduated from Lincoln High School and married Emmett William Morgan; they were blessed with three children, Marilynn, Kathleen, Frederick, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Idella has travelled the 50 states, Canada, the British Isles, Ireland and continental Europe. While residing in Alexandria, LA, Idella became a Braille transcriber for Lutheran Church MO Synod. For 20 years she prepared Sunday School lessons for blind children. Idella taught Sunday School and VBS for many years at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Alexandria. Idella and Emmett lived near Waskom, TX where they were members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Emmett preceded her in death in 1984. As a resident of Shreveport, LA, she transcribed two storybooks for the Shreveport Center of the Blind. Idella trained in the medical field and worked at Pilgrim manor Retirement Center. Idella has been a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran church for 15 plus years where she was a regular worshipper and active in BAFTA. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Sally Ball and Dr. William Haynie.
