Aida "Sugar" (close up) CARTER

Forest Park West Cemetery
Caddo County,
Louisiana

May 10, 1938 - December 9, 2012

Shreveport, LA – Sugar Carter, who almost no one knows as Aida P. Carter, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 9, 2012, after a one-month battle with a rare form of cancer. She was 74 years young.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 14, from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home, 3631 Southern Ave. The home-going celebration service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Shreveport Community Church (formerly First Assembly of God). 7425 Buncombe Road.
Born and raised in Baton Rouge, she attended LSU where she met her husband of 53 years, Ken Carter of Laurel, Mississippi and now a long time resident of Shreveport.
Most people who have known her often confess that they were initially drawn by her trademark, radiant smile which rarely disappeared from her beautiful face, only to discover that she was even more beautiful on the inside.
Sugar worked with the youth at Life Tabernacle Church, Word of Life Church, and First Assembly of God in Shreveport. She was a great counselor to youth and adults alike because she had such a natural mix of the practical and spiritual. Her home was always open and a haven to the kids, many of whom considered her to be their surrogate mom. The love she shared was so graciously returned as evidenced by the outpouring of so many testimonies by many who knew her.
She poured her life into her four children and seven grandchildren, who admittedly adore her and are so appreciative of their heritage.
Sugar was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Aida Palmer. Also, she looked so forward to heaven to reunite with her beloved first-born daughter, Phyllis Carter, who died at age 20.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Carter; her children, Lisa Powell and husband Stan Powell, Chris Carter, and Todd Carter, all of Shreveport; grandchildren, Caleb Carter, Taylor Carter, Allie Carter, Haley Powell, Abby Powell, Rylee Powell, all of Shreveport, and Jordan Powell and wife Sarah, of Oklahoma City; brother, Robert Palmer and Pam Sherburne, of Live Oak, FL; sister, Carmen Palmer, of Baton Rouge; and daughter-in-love, Keachia Carter.
Pallbearers include Stan Powell, Dr. Larry Hammett, Dr. Thomas Robinson, Larry Crane, Jordan Powell and Caleb Carter.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, you consider donations to The Hub Urban Ministry (for the homeless of Shreveport) 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA 71105.
