Shreveport - Joyce Robertson Trowbridge, born June 21, 1925, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 24, 2021, with her husband of 75 years, Arthur, at her side.

Joyce was born in Bossier City and in her late teens began a nursing career at the Old Highland Sanitarium in Shreveport ultimately becoming a Registered Nurse working for many years for Dr. Ralph Riggs and Dr. Jack Pou to whom she was devoted. She also worked as a Title One Nurse in the Caddo and Bossier school systems.

Joyce was a loving and kind wife, sister and aunt. Although they had no children, Joyce and Arthur raised Joyce's sister, Donna, as their own after their mother was killed in an automobile accident in 1953. Arthur's career took them from Shreveport to Jackson, Mississippi, and then to New Orleans. At all stops along the way, Joyce loved to entertain and to cook. She was extraordinarily good in the kitchen, an accomplished seamstress, and an avid sports fan especially of the LSU Tigers. While in New Orleans Joyce became interested in Collies and joined with her niece, Louann Young, in raising Collies and Shelties and showing them at dog shows around the South. She and Louann owned Collies together several of which became Champions including one of Joyce's favorites, Champion LouRa Shawn.

After retirement, Joyce and Arthur lived in Cheboygan, Michigan, Orange Beach and Foley Alabama. They eventually returned to Shreveport in 2013, living for a while in the house they built in the 1960s on Audubon Place.

Joyce was a devout Catholic serving the Church parishes in which she and Arthur lived in various capacities. She and Arthur were founding members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport and both are devoted, longtime members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Joyce had a special devotion to Mother Teresa, now Saint Teresa of Calcutta, who once said "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love".

Joyce is preceded in death by her mother, Maudell Dorman, her father, Lucas Robertson, and her sister, Vivian Kilpatrick. She is survived by her devoted husband, Arthur, who cared for her lovingly for the last few years; sister, Donna Watson Nowak (Fred) of East Hartford, CT; nieces and nephews (children of Vivian), Kevan Joyce Kilpatrick Olson of Eagle Point, OR, Beverly Jean Kilpatrick Dunkle of Sapulpa, OK, Shawn Kilpatrick (Sherry) of Copemish, MI, and Mike Kilpatrick (Sandra) of Aztec, NM; nieces and nephew (children of Donna), Adele Rivers (John) of Jacksonville, FL, Joyce Pelissari (Alex) of East Hartford, CT, and Fred Nowak, Jr. (Rachel) of Manchester, CT; nieces and nephew (children of Arthur's siblings) Susan Trowbridge Ferrell (Frank), Nancy Trowbridge Emery (Bill) and Bill Fleming (Carolyn) all of Shreveport, and Louann Fleming Young of Lafayette, LA.

A graveside service will be held at the Forest Park Mausoleum, 3700 St. Vincent's Avenue (on east side of St. Vincent's Avenue), Shreveport, LA on Monday, March 29, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. It will be presided over by Rev. Peter B. Mangum, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans. Covid protocol will be followed. At a later date a Memorial Mass and Celebration of Joyce's life will be held.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Jeff Crane of The Resource Louisiana, LLC and the many caregivers he arranged for over last year, to all to the health care providers who have assisted in this journey, and to Gertha Banks a devoted longtime friend of Joyce.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, 939 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA 71101, or to the charity of your choice.
