Broussard - Julia Caldwell Breaux, 73, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 7, 2018, at Camelot of Broussard Nursing Home. She was born on December 11, 1944, in Indianola, Mississippi to the late Frank and Julia DeRouen Caldwell. She grew up in Indianola and later graduated from the University of Mississippi with both undergraduate and masters degrees.
Upon moving to Lafayette, LA, Julia taught English at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. After marrying, she raised her three children in Lafayette, of whom she was always so proud. Despite the constant physical challenges that multiple sclerosis posed throughout much of her later life, she enjoyed many years of volunteer work, especially with the Lafayette Arts Council. Julia never missed an opportunity to tell a joke and would befriend strangers with her humor.
She is survived by her three children, son Henry J. Breaux and his wife, Melissa Ann of Charlotte, NC; daughter Marguerite Breaux Potier and her husband, Benjamin M. Potier, Jr. of Lafayette, LA; and daughter Marie-Anne Breaux of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and her husband Vincent Coppejans; and seven grandchildren, Peyton Breaux and Madeline Breaux of Charlotte, NC, William C. Guidry, Jeanne-Marie Guidry, Benjamin M. Potier, III and Eleanor Potier of Lafayette, LA; and Oliver Breaux Coppejans of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Caldwell, Julia DeRouen Caldwell and sister, Hazel Holmes Caldwell.
The family would like to thank all the many doctors, nurses, and caretakers that have helped throughout her long illness, with a special thanks to Paula O'Brien and Alecia Ferney for their friendship and many years of loving and compassionate care.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's Southside location on Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM Friday. Memorial services will continue on Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM with a mass held on Saturday 12:00 noon in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, LA. Interment will immediately follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lafayette.
The family kindly requests donations to the MS Society in lieu of flowers ().
