Funeral Services for Margaret Ellen Abington Sutton will be held Sunday February 26, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Natchitoches. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. prior to the services. Margaret was born in Many, Louisiana in 1927. Mrs. Sutton graduated from Northwestern State College where she studied Social Welfare and later worked for the Welfare Department in Natchitoches. She joined Phi Kappa Sigma Sorority, and met her husband of 67 years Kerlin Caspari Sutton. Mrs. Sutton was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Natchitoches. She loved her "Couples Too" Sunday school class. Her floral talents were often on display in the church sanctuary while her teaching and artistic skills were demonstrated in the Girls Auxiliary organization and Vacation Bible School. Margaret was dedicated to the family business, Sutton Agency, where she worked as a licensed real estate agent and apartment manager. She was also honored to serve on the Ladies Advisory Board of the Peoples Bank in Natchitoches. Her many contributions to the Natchitoches community include her active involvement over the years in the Natchitoches Service League, the Natchitoches Northwestern Symphony Society and the St. Denis Art League for which she was recently named Director Emeritus. Mrs. Sutton was awarded the Natchitoches Living Legend award in 2014 by the Association for the preservation of Historic Natchitoches, serving over seven decades. Margaret also enjoyed her involvement as a member of P.E.O. Chapter AU and as a charter member of Le Papillon Book Club. In the 1950's Margaret founded the St. Denis Garden Club. Gardening and flower arranging gave her and many others countless hours of joy. She studied the ancient art of Japanese flower arranging under the mentorship of Mary Takahachi. Margaret continued her studies and eventually became a nationally accredited flower show judge. Margaret loved nothing more than to dress up, decorate, and entertain. Friends and relatives were often treated to dinner parties, family reunions, and annual Christmas Festival parties.
