LAFAYETTE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church for Ronald James Savoy, Sr, 82, who passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, October 29, 2016. The Reverend Howard Blessing, Pastor, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Elizabeth Savoy; children, daughters Lisa Gene Gardner and husband Jeffery, Lori Desormeaux and husband Alan, Valery Boudreaux and Danielle Savoy; sons Ronald James Savoy, Jr and wife Dr Amanda Phillips-Savoy and Matt Savoy and wife Shannon Dolive; grandchildren Hilary Desormeaux Broussard and husband Cody, Philip Ross Desormeaux, Luke Boudreaux, Bryce Gardner, Tyler Phillips, Trey Savoy, Ryleigh Savoy, Maddox Savoy, Carson Savoy and Gracyn Savoy; great grandchildren Mason Broussard and Ross Desormeaux.
Ron was preceded in death by mother Vivian Colomb Savoy; father George Albert Savoy and infant grandson, Stephen James Savoy.
A professional engineer, he spent most of his professional life in the oilfield. He retired in 1996, and continued to consult independently. He enjoyed playing tennis, until his knee replacement and enjoyed working out and socializing at The City Club at River Ranch. Ron was a member of the UL Rebounders Club and enjoyed all Cajun sports, especially basketball. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. Ron will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved this delightful and engaging man, his deep distinctive voice with a heart as big as he was. He lived his life for his family and his faith, and he was devoted to both.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronny Savoy, Matt Savoy, Philip Desormeaux, Luke Boudreaux, Bryce Gardner, Andrew Monceaux, Horace Harrington and Glenn Colomb.
Visitation hours will be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm in the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank Dr Lainie Moncada and Nursing Specialties Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate and thoughtful care.
