Lafayette - Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Ashby Mamou, 71, who died January 4, 2015 at Lady of the Oaks Nursing Home.
Services will be conducted by Father Thomas James, SVD.
Interment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge, LA.
Ashby was born with disabilities but he never let it stop him. At a very young age he became a caddie at Oakbourne Country Club where he learned the sport himself and received many trophies for his skills. He had a love of sports, it did not matter which sport it was, he enjoyed watching all of them. Before Ashby became ill, he would visit all of the ball parks in the Lafayette area to watch the various sports being played in that season. Ashby had become an honorary Grandfather at Brown Park.
He is survived by one brother, Austin Mamou, Sr. (Vesta); two sisters, Ruby Mamou Peltier and Doris Mamou Rubin and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arceneaux Mamou and Amelia Bonney Mamou; four brothers, Louis, Sr., Dalton, Andrew and Stephen Mamou and two sisters, Inez Mamou Jean and Eula Mamou McKnight.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Syrie Funeral Home from 7:00 a.m. until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m.
