He enlisted on October 25, 1862 at Camp Pratt (north of present day New Iberia), Louisiana. Effective November 1, 1863, the 18th Regiment Louisiana Infantry was consolidated to form the Consolidated 18th Regiment & Yellow Jacket Battalion Louisiana Infantry.
