Harry Barbay a resident and native of Plaquemine, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at the age of 84 at his home in Plaquemine. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and going to LSU baseball games. He was a wonderful father who will be missed very much. He was retired from the Carpenters Local union of Baton Rouge. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Navy. Harry was a member of the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Department, under Jessel Ourso, Sheriff's Posse and Flotilla, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 167 in Plaquemine and Voiture 40/8. He is survived by his daughter, JoAnn Baker and husband Donald L. Baker; sister, Carolyn "Boot" Gail Richard; brother, Glen Berkley Barbay Sr.; grandchildren, Royal Rodriguez Jr. and wife Tara, Maria David and husband Chad, Lianie Thibodeaux and husband Randy, Wendy Rodriguez and Brittany Baker; great-grandchildren, Blaise and Maise David, Brianna and Logan Rodriguez, Ashley Hebert and husband Cody, Leann Evans and husband Jason and Kara Jo Bruno; great-great grandchildren, Allie Hebert, Tyler, Landon and Jake Evans, Briley Aguillard; and godchild, John Conner Barbee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Bourgoyne Barbay; father, Harry John Barbay Sr.; mother, Meady Artimicia Rushing Barbay; brothers, Warren Dale and Kenneth Rushing Barbay; sister, Artie "Pasty" L. Songy. Visiting at Wilbert Funeral Home on Monday, Feb. 13, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., followed by a religious service at First United Methodist Church, Plaquemine, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Kemper Smith. Interment in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Royal Rodriguez Jr., Chad, Blaise and Maria David, George Hamilton and John Barbee. Honorary pallbearer is Michael Lambert. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Comfort Care Hospice, Dr. Kevin Dean and Home Health. We could not have done this without you, thank you so much for all the support.
