Caroline Postell Spurlock, born December 9, 1924, in Plaquemine, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2015, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was 90 years old. Carol was the devoted wife of lifelong Shreveport resident, Dr Daniel Webster Spurlock, and mother of six children. She was an avid tennis player who competed in tennis tournaments throughout the southern United States. She and Dan loved to travel the world together and took their family on many memorable trips to Central and South America and Europe. For many years she taught reading through the Vita program. Carol was a wonderful storyteller with a great sense of humor. She will be remembered for her strength, her wit, and her deep faith. She was preceded in death by parents Charles Edward and Mercedes Postell, husband Dan, son, Dr Charles Edward Postell Spurlock, and her infant daughter, Mary Mercedes Spurlock. She was also preceded in death by sister, Mercedes Postell Ohlmeyer, of Plaquemine. She is survived by son, Daniel Webster Spurlock of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and daughters Caroline S. Ancelet and husband Barry Ancelet of Scott, Louisiana; Ann Logan S Swearingen, and husband, Anthony Swearingen of Asheville, North Carolina; and Frances S Huggins and husband Steve Huggins, of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by grandchildren, Anne S Perrone, Randi S Roberts, James Postell Spurlock, Jean Ancelet, Francois Ancelet, Louis Ancelet, Emile Ancelet, Clelie Ancelet, Margaret L Swearingen, E Rainer Swearingen, Lise Huggins, Daniel Huggins and William Huggins, 10 great-grandchildren, and her beloved Ohlmeyer nieces. There will be a memorial service for Carol Saturday, June 13, at 10:30 at the J Supple's Sons Planting Company store in Bayou Goula, Louisiana.
