A native of White Castle, Louisiana and resident of Addis, Louisiana, he died at 2:40 am, Friday, May 11, 2012 at his home. He was 75, a Navy Veteran who served in the China Sea. He retired from J Patrick after 25 years of service. Visiting at Wilbert's Funeral Home in Plaquemine from 6 pm to 9 pm Sunday, May 13, 2012 and again Monday at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Brusly from 9 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am, celebrated by Rev Matthew Dupre. Interment in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 54 years Sylvia Rome Haydel, Addis; daughters Lori Waldrop and husband Danny, Addis and Rita Ourso and husband L J, Addis; son Claude J Haydel III and wife Beth, Brusly; sisters Cecile Toms and husband Norman, Baker, Shirley Junot, Addis and Patsy Ramagos and husband Richard, Addis; grandchildren, Jill Ackman, Casey Emory, Danny Waldrop J, Melissa Bayham, Taryn Ourso, Erik Haydel, Beau Haydel, Jacob Haydel, Kayla Haydel; great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Koen Ackman, Londyn and Casper Emory, Erin and Addison Bayham. Preceded in death by parents Claude Sr and Hazel Gauthreaux Haydel; sister Connie Russell; brother Stanford and Jackie Haydel. Pallbearers will be Erik, Beau, Jacob Haydel, Austin Weems, Steve and Donnie Junot, Randy Martinez Jr. Honorary will be Danny Waldrop Jr, and Timmy Tullier. He was an avid fan of LSU. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. Wilbert Funeral Home in Plaquemine in charge of arrangements. (225) 687-1850.
