Lafayette, LA - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013, 11:00 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church for Myra McZeal Holmes.
Myra "Mahtie" McZeal Holmes, a child of the risen King, a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend to all departed this life, with her family at her bedside to live a life a new in glory on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the age of 59 after a short illness with heart disease.
Myra was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on December 2, 1953 to Alfred McZeal, Sr. and Vergis Sampey McZeal. She attended St Paul Catholic School, Holy Rosary Institute, and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1972. Upon graduation from Delta Business College in Business Administration in 1986 she relocated to Baton Rouge where she secured employment at Blue Cross/Blue Shield as an administrative secretary where she remained until retirement in 2010.
Myra enjoyed attending church, forming and participating in prayer circles/groups, and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her spouse Samuel Holmes (Baton Rouge, La), two daughters, Sabrina Poydras (Reginald Poydras) of Clarksville, Tn, and Crystal Sterling (Lafayette, La) and one son Mark Sterling (Ashley Sterling). Her father Alfred McZeal, two sisters, Olivia Figaro, and Janet McZeal (all of Lafayette, La), and one brother Alfred McZeal (Houston Tx), eight grandchildren, three nieces, five great nieces, one great nephew, one great-great niece, and a host of friends and acquaintances.
Myra was preceded in death by her mother, Vergis McZeal, and her paternal and maternal grandparents and great-grandprarents.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 16, 2013, 8:00 AM until the time of service at St. Paul Catholic Church.
