Graveside services for Mrs. Melba Ruth Payne Johnston, age 85, will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Whitehall Cemetery with Rev. Jerry West officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Haynesville, LA.
Visitation will begin Monday at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Johnston was born July 30, 1927 in Grove, LA to Rufus Braxton and Lola Lillian Sellers Payne and passed away December 9, 2012 in Homer, LA. She was a lifelong resident of this area, a member of Woodland Church of Christ and a homemaker. Mrs. Johnston was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and sister.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Duke and husband, Doug of Gladewater, TX, Jan Gass and husband, Lee of Kilgore, TX, Rita Coker and husband, G.M. "Jr" of Ivan, LA; brother, Everett Payne and wife, June of Leton, LA; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Johnston in 1996 and sister, Bobbie Benefield.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gregory Newton, Gregg Austin, David Johnston, Brock Hines, Calvin McKenzie and Kim Keen.
