Married March 18, 1838 in Upson County, Georgia and settled in Colquitt, Louisiana in 1856.
W W Owens enlisted on October 12, 1862 at Tallulah, Louisiana. Company Muster roll for January-February 1863 reflected he was arrested in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on January 12, 1863, and jailed for attempted desertion. A record, dated April 29, 1863 listed him as the subject of Court Martial, but did not provide a disposition. His name in the Court Martial record was listed as Wiley W Owens. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after the capitulation of Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. He was paroled on July 12, 1863. In an unspecified month in 1864, his name appeared on a Register as Deceased Soldier and his personal effects were given to the Quartermaster. The Register of Officers and Soldiers indicated he was Killed in Action or died of wounds or disease. His file was listed as CSA Soldier Killed in Action and burial was in Monroe, Louisiana.
