Captain John Jackson "J J" Stubbs served in the 39th Mississippi Infantry, Price's Co./Price Rebels during the Civil War. He was in Co. G, Price Rebels, Rankin County, organized May 1, 1862. Took part in the Battle of Port Hudson, Louisiana in 1863. Was taken prisoner and held on Johnson's Island.

First wife & two children were from Mississippi. Second wife was Martha Meyer.

J J Stubbs went to Texas sometime after the Civil War before ending up back in Louisiana..(1880 US census, Bossier parish, Louisiana) J I (J J ) Stubbs b abt 1833 Miss. is found with wife, Martty Stubbs b abt 1848 TX. Two children included are, Maggie Stubbs, b 1878 TX and Georgie Stubbs b 1879 TX.

The Stubbs cemetery in Bossier parish, Louisiana is located off the Mott Oil Field Rd a few miles south of Boggs Cemetery off Goodman Springs Rd. It consists of two granite headstones that sit on the side of the dirt road at the edge of a wooded area. The graves are of Capt. J.J. Stubbs (1832-1900) and his child daughter Ella Stubbs (1883-1891).
