Funeral services for Nellie Mae Leachman Murphey of Choudrant will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, September 22, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Rev. Larry Emory will officiate. Interment will follow at Douglas Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, September 21 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.Nellie was born December 10, 1927 and went to rest with our heavenly father on September 19, 2018 at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Murphey, her parents: Claude and Birdell Leachman, daughter Jane Brown, and grandson Reife Brown, and sister Julia Faye Leachman. She is survived by her brother, Laster Leachman (Wanda); sisters, Barbara Owen and Dola Witters (Larry); 3 daughters: Patsy Buchanan (Jim), Susie Peterson (Clay), and Frances Murphey; 1 son, Billy Murphey (Anita); son-in-law, PO Brown; 12 grandchildren: Diddle Andrews (Pam),Troy Andrews, Kim ONeal, Angie Hancock-Smith (Brad), Adina Murphey, Justin Murphey, Sheri Roane, Wendi Brown, Kristen Brown, Jamie Morganthall (Donna), and Charles Morganthall (Toni); 20 great grandchildren: Christopher Andrews, Dusty Andrews, Cody Andrews, Karleigh Williams, Grace Hancock, Avery Hancock, Christian Smith, Charlotte Smith, Trevor Turner, Ethan Turner, Murphey Roane, Claire Roane, Lucas McCann, Heather Murphey, Melanie Murphey, Andrew Murphey, Jacob Morganthall, CJ Morganthall, Savanna Morganthall, and Cole Morganthall.Nellie was a lifetime resident of Choudrant, LA. She worked for Lewis & Co for 24 years as a seamstress from 1981-2005. She loved her job and the people she worked with at Lewis & Co. Nellie loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Nellie was a marvelous woman who had aheart of gold and the strength of us all. She always had the answer for any question she was asked. She loved to shop, cook, and loved flowers. Her granddaughters aspired to cook like her. She cooked with love and no recipe but no matter what she prepared, it always came out perfect and always tasted exceptional. No matter how she was feeling or what she was doing, Nellie was always dressed with casual elegance, her hair and makeup were always perfect. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. We Love You Mother and Mamaw!!!Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons: Diddle Andrews, Troy Andrews, Jamie Morganthall, Charles Morganthall, Justin Murphey, Christopher Andrews, Dusty Andrews, Cody Andrews, Trevor Turner, and Ethan Turner.
