He enlisted May 14, 1862 at Monroe, Louisiana. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after he was captured on April 14, 1863 at Bayou Teche, Louisiana. His name was on a Prisoner of War Register, dated April 25, 1863, as captured on a hospital boat. He was paroled on May 11, 1863 at Port Hudson, Louisiana. The Company Muster Roster for July-August 1863 showed his status as "prisoner on parole."
