Son of Arthur W and Martha "Mattie" Page Banks. He grew up in Charlotte. He was an Assistant Florist in Charlotte in 1930 and worked in wholesale grocery sales in 1940. World War II Veteran; US Navy and served from January 1942 until he was honorably discharged in May 1944.
married #1 Mary and #2 Vivian Williams.
