James (Jimmy) C. Spiers, a native of New Orleans, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the age of 81 at his Lakeview home. Jimmy attended Saint Theresa of Avila Catholic School and Fortier High School. He served two years of military duty in Brandon, England (1953-1954) in the United States Army. He returned home to New Orleans to start an auto repair business with his brother Gerald (Jerry) J. Spiers. Together, they followed their father, Ruben C. Spiers (a founding member of United Cabs), into the taxi business operating a large fleet of cabs and rental properties. In 1957, Jimmy married the girl he loved, Barbara Moore Spiers, and shared the rest of his days with her. Jimmy loved working with his brother, growing their businesses and never wanted to retire. He enjoyed his family and his grandchildren gave him much pride and pleasure. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Moore Spiers, his daughter, Brenda Spiers Lafargue (Lance), his grandchildren Alec J. Lafargue, Denis M. Lafargue, and Madeline A. Lafargue, his sister Rita LaVern Spiers Hernandez, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben C. and Josephine Louise Caillouet Spiers, and his brother, Gerald J. Spiers.
