VARNADO — Sophie Crain Stafford, 78, a resident of Varnado died yesterday in her residence. She was a member of Varnado United Methodist Church and a long time Washington Parish resident. She had resided at Varnado with her daughter for the past two years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and her husband, Carl Fornea, Rosa and Ray Jordan, all of Varnado and Kathy and Willie Jordan of Pine; a brother, James Crain of Durham, NC; a sister, Betty Crain of Salem, OR; nine grandchildren, Chubby Fornea and his wife, Faye, Suzi and Mark Kennedy, Stevie Fornea, all of Varnado, Scooter and Amanda Jordan, Willette and J. C. Sumrall, Nanette Jordan, all of Pine, Sherman and Barbara Stafford of Varnado, Sophie and David Roach, and Elaine and Jerry Waller, all of Bogalusa; thirteen great-grandchildren; amd numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Essley Stafford; a son, Charles Stafford; two brothers, Curtis and Vester Crain; a sister, Oleivia Cooper; her parents, Charlie C. Crain and Martha Jane Stafford; three grandchildren, Charlene Fornea, Douglas E. Jordan and Loretta Stafford.
Visitation will be tomorrow from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home and continue after 8 a.m. on Friday until time of service, to be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 3 p.m. The Rev. Ester Hammond will be officiating. Interment will follow in Nobles Cemetery.
