Raymond Emerson Schmidt, 90, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 20, 2018. He was born on July 13, 1928, in Glenmont, Ohio and was one of five children.
He served thirty years in the U.S. Air Force. In 1976, he retired at the rank of CMSgt, having worked as an ICBM Missile Maintenance Supervisor. After retiring, he built a home on Lake Bistineau where he raised cattle and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Russel and Bertha Snyder Schmidt; his four siblings, Betty, Harold, Margery, and Bob Schmidt; and his wife of 53 years, Ethel Walker Schmidt. He is survived by his son, Raymond Schmidt of Doyline; daughter, Deborah Miller of Oklahoma City; two grandsons, Jason Miller of Oklahoma City and Shawn Schmidt of Bossier City; two great-grandchildren, Shaylin and Aaron Schmidt of Bossier City; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Schmidt was a kind, gentle soul, who never raised his voice or hand in anger, and will be greatly missed.
Graveside services to honor Raymond will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Disabled Vets of America, Wounded Warriors Project, or St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
