Ruby Weeks Moseley, a resident of Franklinton since 1963, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She was born in Moselle, Miss. on October 1, 1924.
She was one of the youngest of 10 children born to Rev. Jim and Mattie Weeks. She married Yancie "Hubert" Moseley Sr. in early 1942 while he was serving in WWII. The couple were the founders of Moseley's Jewelers in Hattiesburg, Miss. in 1945. They later opened a jewelry store in Kentwood, and in 1963 they opened the existing store in Franklinton. The Moseleys worked side by side in the jewelry business until they retired in 1979 and then enjoyed traveling for many years.
She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was an avid golfer and bowler who enjoyed fishing and watching all sports with her husband. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, game-playing and corresponding with her large circle of family and friends. She enjoyed her three grandchildren, and while they were growing up she and Mr. Hubert took them on many vacations. Those who knew the couple knew the love they shared and know that they are united again.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Y.H. "Buck" Moseley Jr. and Linda Key Moseley of Franklinton; her granddaughters, Angel Moseley Simmons and Kim F. Morris Becky Moseley Thomas and her husband Dean Thomas, all of Franklinton; her grandson, Yancie H. "Bubba" Moseley III and his wife Tracy Moseley of Mandeville; her great-grandchildren, Adam Simmons and Kandis of Franklinton, Tucker Simmons of Santa Monica, Calif., Allison Moseley of Covington, Linden Moseley Shane and her husband Jason of Irving, Texas, Matthew Moseley of Mandeville, Austin Varnado and his wife Tina of Franklinton, Tyler Varnado of Ocean Springs, Miss., Whitney Varnado of Franklinton and Carter and Collin Cheramie of Mandeville; and her great-great-grandchildren, Deveyn Thomas, Keyton and Ethyn Varnado, Kensly and Luke Simmons, all of Franklinton.
She was preceded in death by her husband Yancie "Hubert" Moseley; her parents, Rev. and Mrs. James W. Weeks Sr.; brothers, Paul, Rayford and James Weeks; sisters, Willie Mae Windham, Thelma Pickering, Winfred Beech, Una Lyons, Lucy Armstrong and Wynona Ridgeway; and a great-grandchild, Jamie Moseley Varnado.
Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home from 11 a.m. Thursday until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Dr. Gene Richards officiating. Burial was in the Ellis Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Tyler Varnado, Adam Simmons, Matthew Moseley, Tucker Simmons, Carter Cheramie and Collin Cheramie.
