November 14, 1917 - June 20, 2007

Selmon Alton Corkern, age 89, a native and resident of Franklinton and a long time resident of Madisonville, died at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 20 in Lakeview Regional Medical Center at Covington.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was retired pipeline superintendent with Houston Contracting Company in Houston, Texas and a retired inspector with Central Gulf Lines in New Orleans. A member and deacon of Bonner Creek Baptist Church, he was recently preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marie Louise Corkern.

He is survived by two daughters, Jeanette C. Taylor of Franklinton and Jannell C. Davis of Talisheek; one son, Selmon A. Corkern Jr. of Franklinton; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren

He was also preceded in death a brother, Dillard O. Corkern; and a sister, Willie Wright.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home today from 6 to 9 p.m. and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 23. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bonner Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Sylvest officiating. Burial will follow in the Bonner Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Clay Taylor, Russell Taylor, Jason Davis, Mark Davis, Selmon Corkern III and Fred Mizell.

September 7, 1920 - April 13, 2007

Marie Louise Corkern, age 86, a resident of the Bonner Creek community died at 9:45 p.m. Friday, April 13 in St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Covington. Born Sept. 7, 1920, she was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Selmon Corkern of the Bonner Creek community; two daughters, Janette Frances Taylor of Franklinton and Marie Janell Davis of Talisheek; a son, Selmon Corkern Jr. of Franklinton; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bartholamew and Margaret Antony; and sisters, Bernadine Douglas, Carolyn Tyrney and Gloria Chatelier.

Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home on Sunday, April 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. Visitation continued Monday, April 16 at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church until time for a funeral mass at 10 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Jonathon Dufrene officiated, with burial following in the Bonner Creek Cemetery.
