Wife of J D Monk
Melba Parker Monk, 87, a resident of Franklinton, died at 3:15 a.m. today in Riverside Medical Center. She was a member of Springhill Baptist Church and was the widow of Jessie D. Monk.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn Simmons and Jack Gibson of Franklinton, and Ann Simmons and Phil Petras of Baton Rouge; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Lois Fay Simmons of Franklinton; a sister, Mary Louise Jones of Franklinton; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Simmons, and a daughter, Kathryn Simmons Cascio.
Visitation will be held at Crain Funeral Home tomorrow from 5-9 p.m. and will continue after 8 a.m. Friday until time of the funeral service, to be conducted from the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. The Rev. Tommy Morgan and Dr. Gene Richards will officiate at the service.
Burial will follow in the Springhill-Magee Cemetery.
