Matalee Phares Brumfield, 88, a resident of Franklinton, died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday in Riverside Medical Center. She retired as a nurse from Riverside Medical Center. A member of the Bethel Baptist Church, she was the widow of Max O. Brumfield.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Max O. Jr. and Pat Brumfield of Franklinton; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha Ann and Larry Davis of Franklinton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Jessie Phares, and Carey and Yvonne Phares, all of Franklinton; five grandchildren and their spouses, Karmen B. and Ben Poole of Zachary, Max O. III and Resha Brumfield of Baker, Dee Davis and Wayne Polkey of Kokomo, MS, Lee and Mandy Davis of Franklinton, and Leslie Davis, US Navy, of San Diego, CA; 14 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Timothy and Annie Lea Phares; and a brother, Steward Phares.
Visitation will be held at Crain Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Revs. Jim
Richardson and Denny Brumfield will officiate. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
