Funeral services for Mrs. Yvonne Rogers Tinsley, age 88 of Ruston, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Owens Memorial Chapel. Officiating the service will be Dr. Michael Hawley. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston.
Mrs. Tinsley was born June 16, 1926 in Homer. She passed from this life September 28, 2014 peacefully in her home. She was reared in Homer until she was 16 and then moved to California. She graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco. Mrs. Tinsley married the love of her life, Ralph D. Tinsley December 25, 1946. They made their home in Ruston and had two children. Mrs. Tinsley worked for M.S. Carroll construction from 1947-1970 then later retired from Louisiana Tech in 1990. She was a long standing member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Mrs. Tinsley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed sewing, painting and reading. Every holiday was spent cooking and serving others. She enjoyed family gatherings and always made everyone feel special. After her stroke, she used poetry to express her feelings. She would write about anything from her precious Ralph, Jesus healing or her love for Sundown hamburgers. Her tremendous strength was drawn from her Lord and Savior until her last breath. She never doubted that He would heal her and now He has. Mrs. Tinsley was preceded in death by her parents: Cleveland Jefferson Rogers and Emma Covington Rogers; her step mother: Clara Leona Rogers; her son: Ronald Ralph Tinsley; son-in-law: Robert Douglas Yates; great granddaughter: Emmy Claire Yates; sisters: Winnie Faye Weaver, Betty Pebworth and Euba Richards.
Mrs. Tinsley is survived by her husband of 67 years: Ralph D. Tinsley; her daughter: Cindy and husband Larry Penuell; grandchildren: Rowdy Yates and wife Jan, Chad Yates and wife Carolyn, Zach Yates and wife heather and Katie Yates; great grandchildren: Landen, Lawson, Levi, Connor, Clara, Jackson, Bella Grace and Ellie; brother: J.C. Rogers and wife Elizabeth and sister: Edna Earl Smith as well as numerous nieces nephews and other family members.
Pallbearers will be: Rowdy Yates, Chad Yates, Zach Yates, Landen Yates, Andrew Garrison and Mett Carroll. Honorary pallbearers are: Wayne Tinsley, Bill Carroll and Phillip Carroll. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of service Wednesday at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
