Shreveport, Louisiana- Edward Joseph Benecke, born September 28, 1942 in Alton, Illinois to Ernest and Irene Benecke, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016 in Shreveport, Louisiana surrounded by family.

He was loved and adored by many and known as Mr Ed, Eddie Joe, Daddy, Papa, Uncle Ed and The Commish. He was a man of great faith and member of St Joseph's Catholic Church from the time he moved his family to Shreveport from Alton, Illinois in 1973. As a parishioner he was active in God's service to the Church as a Lay Eucharistic minister, lector and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He welcomed every new face as they entered the Church. He was an avid golfer and was a passionate about his Fantasy Football league. He founded the Libby Fantasy Football League in 1989 which has stayed together in the years since. Ed retired from Libby Glass after more than 35 years, which is when he was able to devote more time to his golf game, traveling cross-country with family and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He has been a great friend and mentor to many throughout his 73 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jack and Ernie Benecke, sister Mary Lou and the greatest love of his life Judy Hoehn Benecke. He was Dad to four daughters Kris Darwin and Pam and Rick Reysack of Shreveport, Sara and Doug Brice of McKinney, Texas and Beverly Benecke of Houston, Texas. He was Papa to seven grandchildren Emily Watkins and husband Jacob, Caroline Darwin, Wendy and Seth Steele, Sam, Katie and Anna Misuraca. His newest joy was his first great-grandchild, Hallie Kay Watkins. He is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Pat Benecke, Sandy Vacca and Carole Vitale and numerous nieces and nephews.

To celebrate his life, visitation will be held Monday, April 18 at Osborn Funeral Home in Shreveport from 5 - 7 pm followed by a rosary. A Funeral Mass will be held at St Joseph Catholic Church Tuesday, April 19 at 11 am followed by burial at Centuries Memorial Park on Mansfield Road in Shreveport.
