Funeral services celebrating the life of Carolyn Dreasler Bates, 80, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 18, 2013, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, with Rev. Mark Fenn and Rev. Woods Watson officiating. Interment services will follow in the Kilpatrick's Serenity Gardens Cemetery, West Monroe. Carolyn passed from this life on Saturday, April 13, 2013, to go be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven.

Carolyn was a devoted wife and mother as well as Assistant Manager of Bayou D'Arbonne Camping, the family business. She was a member of First Baptist Church in West Monroe, where she was an active member and served for several years as a teacher of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class.
She was an alumnus of the 1950 Ouachita Parish High School Senior Class. In 1954, Carolyn graduated from Northeast State University (ULM) with a B.S. in Medical Technology.
Carolyn loved her family, and chose to dedicate her life to the raising of her three children. Her passion for life and art was demonstrated with her love of flowers and butterflies, the creation of different types of crafts, and music.
From 1989-1991, she held the offices of Vice-President and President of the Ouachita Parish Extension Home Makers Thrifty Club and volunteered many hours of her time to their philanthropic projects.
As a member of the Twin City Porcelain Art Guild, Carolyn's hands painted pieces of porcelain were often on display at art shows. Family and friends alike have received these beautiful gifts of her porcelain art.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Harold Bates of West Monroe; her children, Daniel Bates now of West Monroe, LA and the late R. Margaret Wilhite of Destrehan, LA; David E. Bates and wife, Lisa of Batesville, AR; and Mary Bates Christoff and husband, Douglas of Stow, OH; her grandson, Andrei Christoff; and her sister, Mary Jan Dreasler McKay and husband, Sidney of Memphis, TN, and their two children, Julian McKay and Susan Lovelace.
Pallbearers will be Laymon Godwin, Walter Gates, Ronnie Green, Steve Hall, Mitch Sumrall, and Andrei Christoff.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday April 17, 2013 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
