Henry Gerald Hollier
PLAIN DEALING - A graveside service for Gerald Hollier will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012 at Lay Cemetery (Red River Baptist Church Cemetery), Benton, LA. He was born January 19, 1922 in Oil City, LA to Henry and Alice Marie Strayhan Hollier and died peacefully March 22, 2012 at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home, with his daughters by his side.
Gerald was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Before his illness, he loved hunting, fishing, working on his land and caring for his cattle and beloved dogs. In his younger years, he enjoyed entertaining his children by singing and playing the guitar. Family was very important to him and he welcomed every opportunity to be with his children, grandchildren and extended family members. Gerald served his country during World War II in the South Pacific as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of Red River Baptist Church in Benton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Louise Jones Hollier and brothers, Malcolm Hollier and his wife JoAnn and Bruce Hollier.
Gerald is survived by four daughters, Babs Knight and husband Rufus, Pam Pierrelee and husband, James, Rhonda Watson and husband Jerry, Amy Merriman-Harris and husband Bo; grandchildren, Kim Kyle and husband Robert, Kelly Brandon and husband Dustin, Kasey Smith and husband Jonathan, Doug Pierrelee and wife Shaunna, Travis Pierrelee and wife Amy, Melissa Gutman and husband Mike, Dylan, Connor and Mackenzie Merriman; 16 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jewel Hollier, Joy White and brother-in-law, Billy D. White.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Roy Fleniken and the dedicated staff of the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home for their loving care during Gerald's final years.
