Irma Delafield Pate, beloved mother and grandmother, passed from this life to the next on Monday, January 5, 2015 after a gloriously long and fulfilling life. She was 106 years old. Left to treasure her memory are her daughter Lyndra Pate Daniel and her husband Charles William Daniel (Bill). She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren Christopher Hugh Daniel (Lucy) and Zachary James

Daniel.

Irma was born and raised in Sarepta, Louisiana, the middle child with an older and younger brother. She graduated from Sarepta High School, valedictorian of her class, in May, 1929. While attending Dodd College, a small teaching college in near-by Shreveport, she met and married the love of her life, James Seabe Pate of Liberty, Mississippi and lived in Shreveport for the next 62 years, making frequent trips to the family farm in her beloved Sarepta. While there she and Jimmy were active in Masonic lodge events. Irma was a member of the Agenda Literary Club and the Women's Department Club. Her favorite hobby was sewing, and she could make anything from slipcovers to dance costumes.

In 1984 she moved from Shreveport to Birmingham to be near her daughter and her family. Irma found a new church home at Mountain Brook Baptist Church and was an enthusiastic member of the Grace Nelson Agape Sunday School Class and "XYZ" senior organization. After several years of genealogical paperwork, she and her daughter also joined the General Sumter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Irma was preceded in death by her husband James Seabe Pate, her parents Lena Adkins and William Bryant Delafield, and brothers Wilton Bryant Delafield and Glenn Adkins Delafield. She is survived by a loving niece, Dena Delafield Hebert and nephews Homer Bryant Delafield (Kathy), Wilton Brewer Delafield, and Glenn Adkins Delafield, Jr. (Cheryl).

The family wishes to give heartfelt thanks to her caregivers Parenzetta (Pam) Elkins and Maggie Beard for their outstanding love and care during the past several years.

Friends and family will be received at Rideout's Valley Chapel in Homewood on Saturday, January 10th from 2:00 - 3:30. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 12th, at 11:00 a.m. at the New Sarepta Baptist Church in Sarepta, Louisiana with interment to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Sarepta Baptist Church, 199 South Main Street, Sarepta, LA 71071 or a charity of your choice
