Hebrews 13:2 reads, "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." While this is a blessing, it is temporary. To have entertained "angels" throughout a lifetime is a gift. This was the gift that Beulah Johnson gave to her family. We have been favored with her Christian example, her wisdom and wit, her laughter and hugs, her smile and presence since birth. She is the one that those who knew her can smile and tell a personal story about how she touched their lives and will always be remembered.

Beulah Catherine Iversen was born on Christmas Day, 1922 in Gulfport, Mississippi, a fact that she shared with everyone and a place she always missed. She married Horace "Johnny" Johnson, August 1, 1943 in Gulfport and later moved to Fort Hood, Texas. In 1955, they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. Here they raised their four children. They were founding members of First Lutheran Church in 1969. Beulah attended business school in 1956 and later became a stenographer in the credit department at First National Bank. As the years passed, she witnessed the merger of First with Premier Bank and later JP Morgan Chase. She continued with the bank in an administrative position until her retirement in 1988. She remained active in her church and in the lives of all of us until diagnosed with dementia and later fibrosis of the lungs. She died Friday, May 20 at Live Oak due to complications.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of forty-two years, Horace C. Johnson, and her son, John Michael Johnson. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Johnson Hamric and her husband Jimmie, Catherine Johnson Green and her husband Gary, Patricia Johnson Weldin, and daughter-in-law, Deborah Johnson Thornton. Grandchildren include Lindsay Green Abernathy and husband Scott, Taylor Green Christopher Johnson, Drs. Stephen Johnson and wife Le, Lauren Weeks and husband Elliot, and Patrick Weldin. Great-great grandchildren include Jaden Procell, Jackson Procell, Maximus Abernathy, Lily Weeks, Luke Johnson, Jude Johnson, and Grace Johnson.

Services will be held at Saint Stephen Lutheran Church, Saturday May 28. A short visitation will begin at 9:30 prior to the 10:00 service. Graveside will follow at Forest Park West.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Saint Stephen Lutheran Church at 8400 Kingston Road, Shreveport, LA 71108.

Pallbearers will be Taylor Green, Chris Johnson, Dr. Steve Johnson, Jack Shelton, Gary Green, and Jackson Procell.
