Shreveport, LA- Services for Lenora Munyon, 98, will be held on Friday, March 9 at 10 am at The Salvation Army Church, 200 E. Stoner Ave. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Officiating will be Captain Sean Patrick Lyons and Major Mark Smith of The Salvation Army. Visitation will be Thursday, March 8, 6-8 pm, at Forest Park Funeral Home, Louisiana Ave.

Mrs. Munyon was born September 17, 1913 and was promoted to glory on Sunday, March 4, 2012. She was a member of The Salvation Army for over 90 years. She was a dedicated Christian and a leader in her church, always ready to do whatever was asked of her. Over the years she served as Sunday school teacher, Young Peoples Sgt. Major, was a Girl Guard and later the Girl Guard Leader, Home League Secretary, and treasurer. She played in the church band, but is best remembered by church members for beating her bass drum in church services into her early 90s.

She was employed by the Salvation Army in her professional life and served in several positions including, director of the Men's Lodge/Homeless Shelter, Social Services Director for forty years, and then became church secretary for fourteen years before retiring at age 81. Mrs. Munyon was the first volunteer at Overton Brooks Veterans Hospital representing The Salvation Army by serving coffee to veterans and their families for more than fifty years.

Proceeding Mrs. Munyon was proceeded in death by her husband, Raymond Munyon. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Gaither, Homestead, FL; and three sons, Dustin H. Batson, Quinlan, TX; Billy R. Lyons, Meridian, MS; and Danny L. Lyons, Georgetown, Ga.; Twelve grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Munyon was loved and admired by all who knew her and will be deeply missed. Just after 5 am Sunday morning, Jesus greeted Lenora at Heaven's gate with, "Well done that good and faithful servant."

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Salvation Army (Shreveport Corps), Boys & Girls Clubs of America or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
