A Graveside Service was held on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lafayette, for Irma Young Sondes, 90, who died on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Rev. Ann Sutton, Pastor of Northwood United Methodist Church, conducted the graveside service.

Born in Lake Charles, Irma grew up in New Iberia, graduating from New Iberia High School as Valedictorian. After completing course work in Secretarial Science from Spencer Business College in Lafayette, she was employed at the U.S. Army Induction Center, also in Lafayette, where she met her future husband, Fred.

Survivors include one daughter, Catherine S. Anderson and her husband, James D. of Lafayette.

She will be greeted in Heaven by her husband, Frederick Sondes; her parents, William and May (Mickey) Farris Young; a granddaughter, Marcelle Anderson Bilski; and two sisters, Ida Young Ferguson and Juliette Young (infant).

Irma will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

She always put others before herself, and was the person everyone knew they could depend on whenever help or advice was needed.

All her life she would smilingly tell her daughter that she wanted her epitaph to be "I tried." Well, she not only tried, but succeeded at everything she tried.
