Lafayette - Al died on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes, after a brief illness at the age of 102. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 27 at 3:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held at church prior to the services from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Reverend Zach Sasser, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will conduct the funeral services. A Private Entombment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lafayette.
Al was born in Saginaw, Michigan on March 15, 1916, to his parents Freida and Robert Pfeuffer. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ruth, his identical twin, Elmer, and brothers, Art and Robert. He married Marjorie Wall and moved his family to Reed City, Michigan where they had three children, Carol, Pat and Jean. Subsequently, in 1960 he moved to Lafayette.
Marge passed away in 1981, and Al married Dorothy Steiner in 1985 who has been his wife for 33 wonderful years. He loved his sons-in-law as his own sons and after marrying Dot he gained 4 sons, Robert, Ray and Will. The youngest son, Richard, preceded him in death.
Al was a gentleman in all aspects of his life. He loved his family, his church and his many friends. He was an active member and past President of Rotary, a Deacon/Elder in his church, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and visited the sick every week at the hospital, talking and praying with them. He was an avid golfer, having made 2 hole-in-ones, loved to travel, play cards, hunt and fish and play the harmonica. From toddlers, to children, to teens, to adults, Al was loved and an inspiration to all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dot; three daughters, Carol Lenard and husband, John; Pat Collins and husband, Gary and Jean Hebert and husband, Roger; three step-sons, Robert Steiner and wife, Anna; Ray Steiner and wife, Barbara and Will Steiner; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. WOW!!
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mr. Pfeuffer's name to First Presbyterian Church of Lafayette or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
