Lafayette, LA- Funeral service will be held on Wednesday April 11, 2012,1PM at Kinchen Funeral Home for Thelma Naomi Hanes who was born in DeQuincy, LA on October 22, 1923 to her father, Albert Robertson and her mother, Serena Price-Robertson who preceded her in death.

She attended and graduated from Holy Rosary Institute in pursuit of a secretarial career.

On July 5, 1946, Thelma married Sam, Smith, Jr who preceded her in death and to that union six beautiful girls were born.

She leaves in God's care to cherish her fond memory, Elaine(Alvin) Turner of Oakland, CA, Debra(Arthur) Adams of Monroe, LA, Janice(Darwin) Williams of Winters, CA, Karen Smith of Lafayette, LA, Iva Smith of Lafayette, LA and James Baker of Oakland, CA. Her eldest daughter Bernadine Marie Baker preceded her in death.

Eventually she migrated to California where she retired from Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, CA after 30 years of servcie.

She picked up residence in Lafayette, LA after the loss of her belated and very much loved husband, John Wayne Hanes also known as J.W.

With faith in God and in loving memory she also leaves to mourn a faithful guardian and friend, Sherena Page; 10 grandchildren, Pamela H. White, Alonzo F. White, III, , Lorne Barabosa, James Baker, Jr.,Angela Harper, Nikkia Cooper-Erbst, Donald Harris, Merrika Harris-Armstrong, Ivan Williams and Nick Williams; 15 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

Among her most treasured interests and hobbies, was the love for her family, gardening and most of all her dogs, Precious and Lady.
