Funeral services for Mrs Doris Marie Grafton Doss will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 21 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bernice, Louisiana. Officiating at the service will be Rev Phillip Farris and Rev David Pate. Friends and family are invited to speak briefly at the memorial service of memories of Mrs Doss. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs Doss went home to the waiting arms of Our Lord May 18, 2011. She was born November 22, 1922 to Monroe Grafton and lone Tubbs Grafton in Bernice. She was a loving wife to her husband, Oscar Delton Doss, for 58 years prior to his death in May, 1996. She is also preceded in death by her first daughter, Marie Doss Carson, who was called home by Our Lord May 21, 2010. Mrs Doss worked in retail for 17 years at Martin’s Store in Bernice during which time customers learned to love her and she loved them in return. She was also employed as a bookkeeper for Joey Evans and Charles Harkins before retiring. Because of her love of people she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Reeves Memorial Hospital (formerly Tri-Ward Hospital) in Bernice. Everyone that visited the gift shop had to sample her tea cakes made with her grandmother’s recipe. One of her dearest friends always wrote this phrase in every greeting card and note she gave Mrs Doss “when I grow up I want to be just like you” as she was everyone’s hero . She loved God and it was portrayed in her life to her family and friends, as well as to all she met. She always said her greatest achievement was her four children to whom she taught in words and actions the sustaining love of our Heavenly Father. She was grandmother to more than just her own and she loved every child that wanted to claim her as “Mamaw”. A time came when she had to give up housekeeping and she moved to the Bernice Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she continued to visit with old friends and make new ones. Mrs Doss enjoyed the devotionals and gospel music brought by the various pastors and music groups at the home. Nothing was ever more important to her than her family and the Lord. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church and lifelong member of the family of God. Mrs Doss is survived by sons Delton Doss and wife Carole of Kingwood, Texas; Kenneth “Kenny” Doss and wife Laurie of Bernice and daughter Nan Doss Ritter of Farmerville, son-in-law Lamar Carson of Jena, Louisiana; brother James “Jimmie” Grafton and wife Jean of Scott, Louisiana; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great grandchildren, and dear friend and “adopted daughter” Alene Westbrooks; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Bobby Harkins, Mike Laroe, Steve Martin, Hailard Moore, Dewayne Westhrooks and Tommy Welch. Visitation on will be 5:00 PM Friday, May 20 until service time on Saturday May 21 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bernice.
