August 9, 1919 - February 15, 2010
Mary Alice DeMoss Schilling, 90, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at LSU Bogalusa Medical Center.
Born Aug. 9, 1919 in Alexandria, she was a resident of Washington Parish for 63 years. She devoted her professional career to education and was a retired schoolteacher from the Bogalusa City School System. She also spent many years serving her church, First Baptist of Bogalusa, as a Sunday school teacher. She had been a member of the Bogalusa Garden Guild for a number of years and was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by one son, Danny K. (Beth) Schilling; grandchildren: Chris (Cheryl) Schilling, Grem (Tami) Schilling, Steven (Jeannie) Schilling, Lee Anne Schilling (Craig) Sciambra, Greta Schilling (Ruffin) Fornea, Rachel Schilling (Ken) Wilson, Ellen Schilling (Jonathan) Hobson; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Swayne G. Schilling Sr.; two sons, Swayne G. Schilling Jr. and Larry Leslie Schilling; her parents, Robert T. and Bessie Hanchey DeMoss; and siblings, Raymond DeMoss, Leslie DeMoss and Roberta DeMoss Taylor.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Bob Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Michael McGehee, Mike Breland, Pat McGehee, Albert Hughes, Bobby Speights and Joe Bateman.
