Linda A Lawrence joined the Baton Rouge Police Department in April of 1977. She was killed in August of that same year, becoming the first female police officer known to have been killed in the line of duty in Louisiana. Having served previously with another agency, Lawrence was a four year veteran of law enforcement and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Valor by the Baton Rouge Police Department. She had also served as a Lieutenant in the US Army Reserves.

Linda Lawrence was a Police Officer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She served just four months on the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 30. Officer Lawrence was with her Training Officer at the scene of a Residential Burglary. The Officers encountered the suspect in the bedroom of the house and were attacked by him. The suspect managed to gain control of Officer Lawrence's Service Revolver and shot her once in the chest. Officer Lawrence's Training Partner struggled with the man several more minutes before he was able to fatally shoot the suspect. The suspect was shot ten times with a .357 caliber handgun before he finally quit struggling. Officer Lawrence was the first female Police Officer killed in the line of duty in Louisiana. She was survived by her parents.
