SHREVEPORT, LA-John Paul Reynolds was born August 17, 1932 in Lufkin, Texas and died in Shreveport on May 17, 2013. Our hearts are broken but we understand that Daddy couldn't live without Mother. They are together again. Daddy held on until just a couple of hours after we buried Mother. He let her have the attention she deserved. He would have never stolen the spotlight from her or distracted us from grieving for her. He was her protector and a gentleman until the end. In his rich, full life, John was known as "Johnny", "Big John", "Daddy", "Uncle John", and "Papaw". He cherished each of these roles and meant so much to so many.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Shaw Reynolds; his parents, Paul William Reynolds and Alice Cora Williams Reynolds; his brother Loran W. Reynolds, Sr.; his sisters, Thelma Bingham, Juanita Bush, Ida Kihneman, Margie Callahan and Billie Robinson; and his daughter-in-law, Janie Robinson. He is survived by his sister, Becky Folks; his daughters, Carol Reynolds Buckley and husband, Rick Buckley; Kathy Reynolds Gravel and husband, Louis Gravel; Judith Reynolds Steglich and husband, Greg Steglich; and Stephanie Reynolds Burkhead and husband, Greg Burkhead; his sons, John Stephen Reynolds and his fiancé, Cathy Thomas; and Douglas Glenn Reynolds and his wife, Julie Reynolds. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, the joy of his life; Kara Lanning, Sean Buckley, Matthew Starr, Emmie Robinson, Andrew Starr, Sarah Starr, Megan Lange, Chad Buckley, Mollie Reynolds, Kevin Reynolds, Daisy Burkhead, Dakota Johnson, Raynie Lanning, Aubrey Starr, John Hayes Lanning, Bryce Lange, Annabelle Jane Lanning, Blake Johnson, Gracelyn Johnson, and Alaina Johnson.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013. A memorial service honoring John's life will be held Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 5850 Buncombe Road, Shreveport. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport. Pallbearers will be Sean Buckley, Matthew Starr, Andrew Starr, Chad Buckley, Kevin Reynolds, Rick Buckley, Louis Gravel, Greg Steglich, Greg Burkhead, Jordan Lange, Darl Lanning, Bob Daniels, and Robert Lewis.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Garden Park, especially Jackie and Sarah, and to Ellen, Lisa and Eileen at Grace Home. Donations can be made to Christus Schumpert Grace Home, One Saint Mary Place, Shreveport, Louisiana 71101.
