SHREVEPORT, LA - Earl Lee "Blue" Archer Jr. was born on September 21, 1921 outside of Hope, AR to Earl and Clemmie Archer. After a valiant effort to recover from a stroke, he went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 2, 2012. Funeral services for Mr. Archer will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Memorial Chapel on Tuesday June 5th at 11 AM. Dr. Tom Harrison and Rev. Tom Brown will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday June 4th from 5 PM to 7 PM at Osborn Funeral Home.

After graduating from Hope High School, Earl attended the University of Arkansas. In his prewar days, he loved to ride motorcycles and to race cars. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Earl was commissioned into the Navy and became a Torpedo Bomber Pilot. Prior to finishing Navy flight school, Earl would acquire his life-long moniker "Blue" from the many off duty hours he spent patronizing the "Blue Room" of the old Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. Flying TBM Avengers off the U.S.S. Kalinin Bay, Blue served in the Pacific Theater. Several of his heroic actions are chronicled in the books The Battle of Leyte Gulf and The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors. Once the war was over Blue returned to Hope and joined his father in their Studebaker dealership. For the past forty-six years, Blue worked in the financial services industry, first for A.G. Edwards & Sons and later for French Financial Group. He was a Vice President of Investments.

Blue devoted much of his life to Broadmoor Baptist Church. There he was Chairman of the Board of Deacons and was on the Board of Directors. He so enjoyed his time spent in Precept Bible Study and his Sunday school class. He was equally devoted to his beloved Masonic Order. In 1978 he was Potentate of El Karubah Shrine Temple. In 1983 he was given the honor of becoming a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason but he was most proud of the year he spent as Master of Joppa Lodge #362 F&AM in 1996. He also enjoyed his membership in many auxiliary Masonic orders including the Grotto, York Rite and Sojourners.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clemmie and E.L. Archer and his first wife Margaret. He is survived by his loving wife, Nina, and her children, Greg Morrison and his wife Grady and Donna Kent and her husband Creighton, their children David, Philip and Sarah; His daughter Margaret Ann Huey and her children, Don Usry and Cathy Huey, along with Don's children Donald, Neal, and Chad; his sister Jean Strand and her children Mike, David and Gayle.

The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses at LifeCare who worked tirelessly to provide Blue comfort, compassion and quality care.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Shreveport, LA.
