Betty Jane Kessel, 75 of Mooringsport, LA passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at her home. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Mooringsport Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mooringsport, LA officiated by Robert Guth. There will be a time of visitation from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Gorsulowsky Funeral Home in Vivian, LA. Betty was born on July 18, 1937 in Whiteface, TX and had lived in the Mooringsport area for the past 57 years. She was a member of the Countryside Baptist Church. She loved to fish, and she loved to cook. She enjoyed doing crafts such as cross stitching and painting. Betty was preceded in death by her parents James Price Smith and Stella Oma Crumpton Smith and her brothers, Sterling and Olin Smith. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Virgel Lee Kessel, her 3 children; Gina Cunningham and husband John, James Price Kessel and Beverly Lynn Rhodes and husband Allen, her grandchildren; Katy and Sarah Cunningham, Donna Joe Allen, Brittany Jade Kessel, Stephen Smith, Michael Phipps and Mark Smith, her great grandchildren, Emma Rae Phipps and Breanna Allen and her brother Jimmy Smith. The family would like to give a special thanks to Judy Carr. Pallbearers will be Mark Smith, Stephen Smith, Michael Phipps, Darrell Wall, Dan Platt and Ed MacArthur. Honorary pallbearers are Phillip Green, Allen Rhodes and John Cunningham.
