George Irvin Dunbar, 90, of Mooringsport, LA went home to be with the Lord on August 8th, 2017. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday September 3rd, 2017 at Memorial Gardens Mooringsport, LA. It will be officiated by Rev. Roy D. Strother, pastor of Mooringsport Baptist Church, whom he considered a dear friend.



George was born on September 3rd, 1926 in Mooringsport, LA to Earl Howard and Mae Elinor Tidwell Dunbar. He served his country in the US Army during WWII and was stationed in Munich, Germany. He was a lifelong resident of Mooringsport, Louisiana, up until he moved to Oklahoma to be near family. He was a member of the Baptist Church of Mooringsport. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He worked in his father’s ice house and fish market as a young man and started out as a oil field worker after the war. He worked many years as a journeyman pipe fitter, including at the Marshall Fab Shop and Morton Thykol. He was the Business Manager/Agent for many years for Local 301 in Marshall TX which merged with Local 237 in Texarkana, Texas. George was a member of the Masonic Lodges of Blanchard and Mooringsport and a Master Mason and 50 year member.



George was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mae Dunbar, his brothers Samuel, Howard, Loyd, Harry and Dale Lynn Dunbar, sister Vera Mae Barlow and many dear friends, including his best friends of many years, Travis Duncan, Charles Chelette, and Bob Guth.



He will be missed by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lois “Tootsie” Dunbar of Tulsa, Oklahoma, his two sons , James Dunbar and wife Linda of Broken Arrow, Ok, and Gary Dunbar and wife Julie of Phenix City, AL. He is also survived by grandchildren, Melodie Dunbar Floro of Dexter, MI, Patrick Dunbar of Peoria, IL, Stephen Dunbar of Smith Station, AL, Stephanie Dunbar Hudson of Greenwood, SC, and Julianna Dunbar of Phenix City, AL. Two step granddaughters Brittni Cole and Lennie Wright of Columbus, GA, three great grandchildren, Anastacia, Weston, and Bennett Floro, and several nieces and nephews.
